Collegeville, Pa. – January 14, 2024 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics team opened up the 2024 campaign finishing second at the Ursinus Quad on Sunday afternoon. The Pride totaled a 185.500 and was edged by RIC's winning mark of 187.100. Cortland took third with a 184.050 and host Ursinus finished the day with a 184.425.
Sophia LeBlanc (Waltham, Mass.) was impressive in her Springfield College debut as the graduate student totaled a 38.275 to finish in first in the all-around, while
Sage Kaplan (Auburn, Mass.) totaled a 36.875 in her four events. LeBlanc posted the best score of the day on the floor exercise with a winning mark of 9.750 and
Stacy Taylor (Biddeford, Maine) notched a 9.600. Kaplan added a 9.525 on the event to round out the top three scorers for the Pride as they notched a team mark of 47.70.
LaBlanc she hit for a 9.675 on the balance beam to finish in second, while
Julia Reer (Cedar Grove, N.J.) delivered a 9.500 and Kaplan produced a 9.150 to help Springfield earn a 45.650.
Annie Kiley (Taneytown, Md.) picked up where she left off after a record-breaking junior season and registered a winning score 9.650 on the vault. Kaplan and Taylor were equally as impressive with scores of 9.475 to tie for third which helped fuel the Pride's team score of 47.025.
The Pride closed out the day on the uneven bars, with LeBlanc's score of 9.675 earning her runner-up honors. Kiley totaled a 9.000 and
Ayako Maeda (Yokohama, Japan) tacked on an 8.950.
Springfield will compete again next Saturday when it travels to Rhode Island College to compete in a quad meet with Cortland and Utica.
