Springfield, Mass. – October 11, 2024 – The Springfield College men's tennis program capped its fall season with a 7-0 win over Wentworth on Friday evening on the Appleton Courts.
Springfield, which had one of its best fall seasons in recent history, improved to 4-0 and will look to take that momentum into the spring, while Wentworth fell to 0-3.
The homestanding Pride won all three doubles matches for an early 1-0 edge in the match.
Waseem Sablon (Stoughton, Mass.) and
Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) won by a 7-6 final at No. 1 doubles, while
Liam Huppke (Markham, Canada) and
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles and
Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Marten Schalin (Taby, Sweden) took a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Springfield won all six matches in singles play in straight sets en route to the 7-0 victory. It was Huppke who clinched the match for the Pride with his 6-2, 6-0 win over Pranav Marwaha at No. 3 singles. Kimoto won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, Guzman won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2,
Marc Villanueva Abad (Barcelona, Mexico) won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4,
Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 and Schalin won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.
Springfield is slated to open its spring schedule at Trinity College (Conn.) on March 9.
