Orlando, Fla. – March 17, 2025 – The Springfield College men's tennis team rolled past Crown College, 7-0, in its first match in Florida on Monday morning.
Springfield is now 5-0 on the season picking up its first victory of the traditional spring campaign.
Marten Schalin (Taby, Sweden) and
Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) earned the first win of the day for the Pride by a 6-0 score at No. 3 doubles.
Waseem Sablon (Stoughton, Mass.) and
Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) at No. 1 as well as
Marc Villanueva Abad (Barcelona, Mexico) and
Micah Matsudaira (Cornwall Bridge, Conn.) at No. 2 completed the doubles sweep.
Springfield lost just three total games in singles play.
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) at No. 1,
Liam Huppke (Markham, Canada) at No. 2,
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) at No. 3 and
Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) at No. 5 all won by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, while
Akito Shimamura (Hirono Futaba, Japan) won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 to complete the 7-0 victory.
Springfield will take on the University of Scranton tomorrow morning at 7:30 am at the USTA National Complex.
