Springfield, Mass. – October 12, 2024 – The Springfield College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision in NEWMAC play to No. 6 ranked MIT on Saturday afternoon on Brock-Affleck Field.
MIT improved to 10-1-1 overall and to 5-0-0 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield, which was handed just its second loss of the season, dipped to 5-2-4, 2-1-2.
The visiting Engineers held a decisive 25-7 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks en route to the conference win. Arianna Doss put MIT on the board first in the 18th minute when she finished a pass from Sean Luk.
Then in the second half, MIT doubled its lead when Doss fed the ball to Meagan Rowlett – her sixth tally of the season – just six minutes into the stanza.
Springfield had a couple of looks at the net as in the 32nd minute
Lexi Stone (Wilbraham, Mass.) made MIT keeper Cassidy Jennings come off her line for a save, while
Natalia Mottura's (Scarsdale, N.Y.) attempt hit the post in the 36th minute.
In net,
Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) came up with some big saves for Springfield and totaled seven stops in the effort.
Springfield will host Mount Holyoke College on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:00 pm.
