Springfield, Mass. – October 16, 2024 – Four different student-athletes tallied goals as the Springfield College women's soccer team picked up a 4-0 shutout win over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Wednesday night on Brock-Affleck Field.
Springfield improved to 6-2-4 overall and to 3-1-2 in the NEWMAC standings, while Mount Holyoke dropped to 3-4-4, 0-3-3.
As a team, Springfield posted a 26-2 advantage in shots and a 9-0 differential in corner kicks. The Pride also saw both keepers split halves as
Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) and
Mallory Forgatch (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) combined for two saves on the night.
Jen Walker (Webster, Mass.) and
Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.) powered the Springfield offense with three points (goal & assist) in the win, while
Molly Baxter (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and
Olivia Raucci (Schenectady, N.Y.) accounted for Springfield's other two goals on the night. In total six student-athletes for the Pride picked up at least one point.
Walker now ranks second in the NEWMAC in both points (4-5-13) and assists (5) this fall.
Baxter put Springfield ahead 1-0 in the 20th minute as she finished a pair of one touch passes from both Walker and Healy and just 2:29 later, Healy doubled Springfield's lead with an unassisted strike. Baxter's goal was her third of the fall, while Healy, who now has scored twice in a stretch of three games, has two tallies on the year.
With 15 minutes left before the halftime break, Raucci recorded her fourth goal as she finished a pair of passes from
Rosie Turbett (Wallingford, Conn.) and
Gabby Scott (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) inside the 18-yard box for Springfield's third goal of the stanza.
Then after posting 13 shots in the second half, Springfield was awarded a penalty kick which was taken by Walker, who buried the goal to account for the 4-0 final. Walker is now 2-for-2 on penalty kicks this year – the last coming against Western New England in September.
Since 2016 (eight consecutive matchups) between Springfield and Mount Holyoke, the Pride have scored four goals or more in five of those games. Over that stretch, Springfield has outscored Mount Holyoke by a 37-2 differential.
Springfield will travel to Emerson College for a NEWMAC tilt on Saturday, October 19 at 1:00 pm with just five contests left in the regular season.
