Springfield, Mass. – October 2, 2024 – The Springfield College women's tennis team was edged by Colby-Sawyer College, 4-3, in its first dual match of the fall season.
Springfield took an early 1-0 lead after taking two of three wins in doubles action.
Ramida Manataweewat (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) topped Elise Hogan and Sky Jara, 6-1, at No. 1, while
Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) and
Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) defeated Isabella Avendano and Maria Espinosa Lopez, 6-2, at No. 2.
Colby-Sawyer stormed back for three wins in singles play - at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 - to knot the match at 3-3 leaving the match in the hands of the No. 1 pairing of Manataweewat and Payton Dugan. It was Dugan, however, who clinched the match for the Chargers by a 7-5, 7-5 final.
Springfield was victorious at No. 2 singles as
Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jara and at No. 3 singles as Vettayawaikoon defeated Hogan, 6-2, 6-3.
Springfield will host Endicott College in non-conference action on Tuesday, October 8 at 3:30 pm.
