Springfield, Mass. – October 22, 2024 – The Springfield College field hockey team delivered the game's only goal with less than three minutes remaining in regulation to edge Wheaton, 1-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Stagg Field.
The win lifted the Pride to 6-10, 2-5 in conference play and Wheaton dipped to 7-8, 1-6. It was Springfield that controlled much of the game, owning a 19-3 advantage in shots and a 9-2 cushion in penalty corners.
Kaitlyn Parent (Glastonbury, Conn.) earned the win after making one save.
With regulation winding down, Springfield was awarded a penalty stroke in the 58th minute, and
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) hammered home the game-winning strike. The Lyons were awarded a penalty corner with no time left on the clock, but the Pride was able to play solid defense to end the threat and to close out the conference win.
Springfield will play its regular-season home finale on Saturday when it hosts Smith at 12 pm.
