Women's Volleyball Tops WPI In Straight Sets

Worcester, Mass. - October 29, 2024 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team prevailed in straight sets over WPI on Tuesday in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest.  Springfield won the fourth annual Greg Poole Match by the scores of 25-20, 25-12, 25-15 as it moved to 18-6, 7-2 in conference play.

Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) was impressive on the pin with a season-high 15 kills which came at a .481 clip, while fellow outside Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) added 12 kills hitting .360.  Maeve Voltz (Bay Shore, N.Y.) contributed 10 kills and four blocks in the middle and Megan Kirtyan (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) recorded 31 assists in directing Springfield's offense to a .323 hitting percentage.

After going down 5-2 in the first, Springfield would lean heavily on Billet, as she accounted for eight kills on 13 errorless attempts in the frame.  Springfield would break open a nine-all contest with an 11-5 surge capped off by a Billet kill before taking the 25-20 win on another termination from Billet.

The Pride would race out to a 7-2 lead in the second and never look back as it coasted to a 25-12 victory. Springfield's offense was impressive in the set, totaling 13 kills at a .423 clip as a team, getting four from both Donahue and Billet.

Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) put away a ball in the middle to cap off a five-point run which allowed Springfield to take an 8-3 lead early in the third.  However, the hosts would pull within 14-13 as Springfield called for a timeout.  Out of the break, Billet would take over with three-consecutive kills to help Springfield pull away for the 25-15 triumph. Voltz was the standout in the set, accounting for six of the Pride's 15 third-set kills.

Springfield will host Salve Regina next Tuesday at 7 pm in Blake Arena.
