Women's Volleyball Races Past Salve Regina In Straight Sets

Springfield, Mass. – November 5, 2024 – The Springfield College women's volleyball team raced past visiting Salve Regina, 3-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) meeting on Tuesday night inside Blake Arena.  The Pride won by the scores of 25-8, 25-20, 25-16.

Springfield boosted its record to 19-6, 8-2 in conference play, while the Seahawks dropped to 8-17, 3-7.

Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) led all players with 12 kills at a .360 clip and Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) contributed six kills, six aces, and eight digs.  Maeve Voltz (Bay Shore, N.Y.) produced eight blocks in the middle and chipped in six kills, and Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) registered seven blocks of her own to go along with 33 assists and three aces.  Springfield held Salve to a -.011 hitting percentage and owned a 37-19 advantage in kills.

An ace by Hailey Deguire (Rotterdam, N.Y.) gave Springfield a 7-1 lead to begin the match and a kill from Billet would force the visitors into their second timeout of the frame at 14-4.  Springfield would cruise to a 25-8 win as Donahue hammered her fifth kill of the night to cap off a stanza where the Pride hit .611 as a team while limiting the Seahawks to a -.176 hitting percentage.

Consecutive blocks from Voltz and Colosimo put Springfield in control at 6-1 to begin the second, only to have Salve Regina settle in and open up a 16-13 advantage as the hosts called for a timeout.  Out of the break, the Pride would manufacture a 10-2 surge, with Donahue contributing three kills and Colosimo connecting for an ace at 23-18.  Ahunna James (Plainville, Mass.) closed out the 25-20 win with the Pride's 13th kill of the set.

Springfield jumped out to a fast start again in the third, this time at 5-1 on a kill by Voltz, but the Seahawks would surge to take a 10-8 lead.  Out of a Springfield timeout, the hosts scored nine of the next 10 points in the set, with Donahue ripping a kill for the 17-11 lead.  Seven different Springfield players would record at least one kill and Salve would commit its eighth attack error of the frame to complete the Pride's 25-16 win.

Springfield will play its final home game of the regular season on Thursday night when it clashes with Endicott at 7 pm in a non-conference contest.
