Field Hockey Shuts Down Mount Holyoke, 3-0

Springfield, Mass. – October 8, 2024 – The Springfield College field hockey team earned a 3-0 victory against Mount Holyoke in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) meeting on Tuesday at Stagg Field.

Springfield snapped its six-game slide to improve to 4-8, 1-3 against conference foes while the Lyons evened their record to 6-6, 0-4.  Audrey Hayes (Oxford, Mass.) registered a pair of goals in the win, while Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) netted the eventual game-winner in the first quarter and assisted on both of Hayes' strikes. Kaitlyn Parent (Glastonbury, Conn.) registered the shutout victory after making five saves.  Springfield finished the game with a 16-8 advantage in shots, while the visitors took seven of the game's 11 penalty corners.

For the first time in its last six outings, Springfield struck for the game's first goal as the Pride peppered nine shots in the opening 15 minutes of play.  After Kaelin Cerasuolo's (Hampden, Mass.) initial bid was stopped, Gaydos collected the rebound and stuffed home a shot on the goal line to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage at the 10:43 mark of the opening quarter.

The Pride tacked on its second goal of the contest just over two minutes into the second quarter when Gaydos carried the ball down the sideline before delivering a centering pass just pass the outstretched arms of MHC's goalie which Hayes was able to jam in on the back post.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Springfield completed the scoring in the 53rd minute as Gaydos pushed transition before slotting a pass to a wide open Hayes who hammered in her second marker of the night.

On Saturday, Springfield will travel to Wellesley for a NEWMAC tilt beginning at 12 pm.
