Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Pushes Past Worcester State, 3-1

Springfield, Mass. – October 8, 2024 – The Springfield College men's soccer team used a trio of goals from first-year student-athletes to race past Worcester State, 3-1, in a non-conference clash under the lights on Brock-Affleck Field on Tuesday night.

The non-conference victory boosted Springfield's record to 4-6-1, while the Lancers dropped to 2-7-1.  Springfield ended the game with a 19-10 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Erving Henderson (Great Barrington, Mass.) delivered two first-half strikes less than four minutes apart, his first coming in the 36th minute.  After a ball was played into the box from just inside the midfield line, Cole Sampson (Hingham, Mass.) elevated over the oncoming Worcester State goalkeeper to flick the ball back to Henderson. The first-year made the most of his left-footed touch, slotting the ball just inside the post of an empty net to put the hosts on the board.

At the 39:32 mark, Henderson struck again following an unsettled situation off a long throw in as Jared Kelly (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) delivered a cross from outside the box which Henderson was able to run onto off the back post and head in his second marker of the night.

Springfield added to its lead with seven minutes left in regulation after Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) drilled a kick 70 yards over the heads of the Worcester State back line which Henderson was able to run onto.  Henderson's one on one bid was snuffed out, however, Cooper Harmon (Wall, N.J.) ran onto the loose ball and smashed home his first career score with seven minutes left in regulation.

The visitors were able to convert a penalty kick just over 90 seconds later when Mal Hawkins converted.

Springfield will next play on Saturday when it hosts MIT at 1 pm.
