New London, N.H. – The Springfield College men's tennis program earned its third dual match win of the fall season as the Pride topped Colby-Sawyer College, 6-1, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon on the road.
Springfield improved to 3-0, while Colby-Sawyer took its first loss and is now 2-1.
The Pride earned the point out of doubles play by winning all three spots.
Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) and
Waseem Sablon (Stoughton, Mass.) defeated Zsombor Homonnay and Aidan Jensen, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles,
Marc Villanueva Abad (Barcelona, Mexico) and
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) bested Ashton Meuse and Leonardo Brezzi, 7-5, at No. 2 and
Liam Huppke (Markham, Canada) and
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) topped David Dvorak and Tyler Sampson, 6-3, at No. 3.
Springfield pushed its lead to 3-0 in the match following singles wins by
Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) and
Marten Schalin (Taby, Sweden) at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively, as Taub (6-2, 6-4) and Schalin (6-3, 6-0) breezed by their opponents. After Colby-Sawyer got a point at No. 3 singles to make it 3-1, Guzman clinched the match with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-1 win at No. 2. Kimoto (7-6, 6-3) and Huppke (7-6, 2-6, 10-8) both rounded out the wins for Springfield to account for the 6-1 final.
Springfield wraps up its fall season on Friday, October 11 with a dual against Wentworth on the Appleton Tennis Courts beginning at 3:30pm.
