New London, Conn. – October 9, 2024 - The Springfield College women's soccer team picked up a crucial three points in the league standings as the Pride topped Coast Guard, 3-1, on Wednesday night in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.
Springfield improved to 5-1-4 overall and to 2-0-2 in NEWMAC play, while Coast Guard dropped to 1-7-3, 1-2-1.
Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.) registered her first goal of the season just four minutes into tonight's contest – the second straight game the Pride have tallied their initial goal under five minutes into the game. Healy finished a pass from
Jen Walker (Webster, Mass.), who picked up her third helper of the campaign.
Before the first half was over, a strike by
Olivia Raucci (Schenectady, N.Y.) doubled Springfield's lead as she potted her third goal of the year off a feed from
Rosie Turbett (Wallingford, Conn.). Turbett's assist was the first of her collegiate career and now gives her nine points this season.
After Coast Guard opened the scoring 5:36 into the second stanza, Springfield regained its two goal advantage less than a minute later on a strike by
Molly Baxter (Pleasantville, N.Y.) – her second goal of the season. Walker once again set up the goal for her second assist of the night and fourth of the year.
Statistically, the game was even with Coast Guard holding a 14-11 edge in shots and Springfield holding a 2-1 margin in corner kicks.
Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) made five saves for Springfield in net as she moved her record to
Springfield will host No. 6 nationally-ranked MIT on Saturday, October 12 at 4:00 pm as part of a twinbill with both the men's and women's soccer teams for the aforementioned schools on Brock-Affleck Field.
