New York, N.Y. – November 12, 2024 – The Springfield College men's basketball fought back from an early 15 point deficit to tie the score at 42 in the second half, but ultimately fell to Yeshiva University, 78-65, in a non-conference game at Max Stern Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.
Yeshiva earned the win in its home opener and moved to 2-1 on the season, while Springfield dropped to 0-2 after its first road trip of the year.
Josiah Evely (Toronto, Ontario) led all scorers in the game with 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting to go along with nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Curtiss Blische (Barkhamsted, Conn.) added 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals, while
Xoren Livingston (Wayland, Mass.) tallied 11 points and seven rebounds and
Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.) posted ten points and four boards for the Pride.
Dothan Bardichev led Yeshiva with 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting with eight assists and four rebounds, while Max Zakheim tallied 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals for the hosts.
Yeshiva scored the first 11 points of the game and led by as many as 15 points, 19-4, just eight minutes into the contest. The early run featured points from six different Yeshiva scorers including eight from Zevi Samet.
Zander Robinson (East Hartford, Conn.) ended the run for Springfield with a layup before the Pride put together an 8-3 spurt to make it a ten point game with 8:27 left in the half. The Pride outscored the Maccabees 6-2 over the final 1:41 of the first highlighted by a pair of points from Flynn, Livingston and Evely to make it a 35-29 game at the break.
Springfield outscored Yeshiva 13-7 over the first 5:14 of the second to even the score at 42-42 thanks to four points from both Evely and Paulino. Livingston started the scoring in the stanza on a jumper from Flynn, while a driving layup from Paulino capped the run five minutes later. Back-to-back treys by Dothan Bardichev and Samet pushed Yeshiva's advantage to six kickstarting a 15-3 run as the Maccabees went back ahead by 12 at 57-45 midway through the second and never looked back en route to the 78-65 final.
Springfield will travel to Virginia for the Frankie Allen Tip-Off Tournament at Roanoke College beginning on Friday. The Pride will take on the host Maroons at 6:00 pm in the opener.
