Roanoke, Va. – November 15, 2024 – The Springfield College men's basketball team was upended by host Roanoke, 90-59, in the opening game of the Frankie Allen Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening.
The Maroons moved to 2-1 while Springfield dipped to 0-3 with the setback.
Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.) netted a team-best 10 points and
Josh Hartley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added nine points and five boards off the bench for the Pride.
Roanoke had five players score in double figures, with Clayton Gaither tallying a team-best 13 points and Patrick Clevenger producing a 12-point, 12-rebound outing.
The host Maroons jumped out to a 12-0 lead just under four minutes into the game to take control of things early on. Springfield had trouble slowing down Roanoke, as the hosts shot nearly 60% from the floor (21-of-37) and knocked down 7-of-11 from beyond the arc to go into the halftime with a 55-23 advantage.
Out of the break, the Pride used a 9-2 spurt capped off by an inside bucket from
Xoren Livingston (Wayland, Mass.) which brought Springfield within 57-32. However, Roanoke responded with a 7-1 push over the next three minutes to regain momentum to cruise to the non-conference win.
Springfield will wrap up their time in Virginia on Saturday in the consolation game starting at 1 pm.
