Hartford, Conn. - November 16, 2024 -  The Springfield College women's basketball team raced past Eastern Connecticut State for a 69-46 non-conference victory on Saturday at Trinity College's Ray Oosting Gymnasium.

Springfield improved to 2-1 with the win as Angie Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) poured in 16 points to go along with eight boards and Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) added 15 points and four assists.  Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) cashed in on 15 points off the bench as Springfield finished the game shooting 42% (26-61) from the field and outscoring the Warriors by a 40-20 margin in the paint.

ECSU raced out to a 7-0 lead in the opening two-plus minutes of the game, but Springfield would close the quarter with a 4-0 push to pull within 17-15 following a pair of free throws by Stefany Padula (Franklin, Mass.).

Springfield would take its first lead of the game when Finney scored in transition at the 5:02 mark to make it a 21-19 contest. Lucas would later haul in an offensive board and score on a putback to finish off a 12-0 spurt as the lead ballooned to 29-19 with 1:21 remaining in the half.  In the final seconds of the stanza, Lucas drilled a trifecta to give Springfield a 32-24 halftime advantage.

After its lead was trimmed to 34-28 in the first minute of the third, Springfield netted back-to-back triples by Lucas and Padula and extended the lead to 48-33 before a fast-break finish by Lucas inside the final minute allowed Springfield to grow its lead to 54-37.

The Pride would lead by as many as 25 points in the fourth as it ran away with the non-conference triumph.

Springfield will hit the court again on Sunday when it travels back to Trinity for a 2 pm tilt.
