Hartford, Conn. – November 17, 2024 – Trinity College knocked down 17 shots from behind the arc to defeat the Springfield College women's basketball team, 75-62, on Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Bantams Tip-Off Tournament.
Trinity picked up its second win in as many days to improve to 2-0, while Springfield evened its record out a 2-2 this season.
Springfield received 13 points and nine rebounds from
Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.), while
Angie Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) added 13 points, four boards, two assists, two blocks and a steal.
Kassidy Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) registered 11 points, three steals and two boards and
Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) registered ten points, two rebounds and two assists.
Trinity was led by Theresa Twardowsky, who posted a game-high 19 points off the bench. Olivia Vick added 13 points, while Melissa Whitmore tallied 12 points and six boards. As a team, the Bantams shot 51.5-percent (17-for-33) from behind the arc and 43.1-percent (25-for-58) from the floor to earn the win on Sunday.
Springfield went ahead 10-3 over the first 2:37 of the game as a layup by Leary and a pair of shots from the charity stripe by Finney capped the run. Trinity, however, converted nine times from three point range and received two free throws from Madi Forman to go ahead 30-14 early in the second. Springfield was able to cut its deficit back to as few as five following a trey from
Stefany Padula (Franklin, Mass.), but Trinity took a 36-27 lead into the halftime break.
The Bantams went 9-for-20 from three point range over the first 20 minutes of the contest.
A layup and a free throw by Czeremcha opened the scoring in the second half, but Trinity answered with an 8-2 run capped by a three pointer from Whitmore to extend the hosts lead back to double digits at 44-32 midway through the third and never looked back. The Bantams registered its largest lead of the game of 20 points at 75-55 off a three by Kiki Fossbender with 2:36 remaining in the game as the final score read 75-62 at the end of 40 minutes this afternoon.
Springfield scored 30 of its 62 points in the paint, while Trinity posted 41 of its 75 points off Pride turnovers and received 37 points off the bench.
Springfield returns home for a non-conference matchup with No. 20 nationally-ranked Rhode Island College at 7:00 pm in Blake Arena.
