NCAA BOUND - Football Headed To Fourth-Straight NCAA Division III Championship Tournament

Springfield, Mass. - November 17, 2024 - The No. 20/23 nationally-ranked Springfield College football team is headed to the NCAA Division III Championship for the fourth-consecutive season as it was announced Sunday during the selection show on NCAA.com. This qualification marks the 10th time in program history that the Pride will participate in the national tournament. Springfield earned a first round bye, was selected as one of 16 second round hosts and will welcome UMass-Dartmouth to Stagg Field on Saturday, November 30 at 12:00 pm.

Head coach Mike Cerasuolo led the Pride to its fourth-straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Saturday afternoon with a 55-20 win over Maritime. The Pride, which is currently 10-0, finished the regular season with an unblemished record for just the fourth time in the 134 year history of the program, joining the teams of 1965, 2003, and 2017 to achieve such a feat. Since the NEWMAC began sponsoring football in 2017, Springfield has been to the national tournament five times, and prior to the current run, the Pride made the Division III tournament in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2006, and 2017.

Springfield has strung together 26-straight conference wins and have put together a historic season thus far. The top rushing offense in all of college football, Springfield is averaging more than 450 yards per game on the ground and just wrapped up the highest-scoring regular season in program history as it has produced 48.6 points per game this year.

UMass-Dartmouth (10-0) was crowned champions of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for the third straight year after defeating Plymouth State University, 47-42, on Saturday.

Springfield and UMass-Dartmouth both received first round byes and will face each other on Stagg Field on Saturday, November 30 at 12:00 pm in the second round of the national tournament. Springfield is 3-1 all-time against the Corsairs with the last meeting coming in week two of the 2015 season when the Pride topped UMass-Dartmouth, 35-17. Springfield also defeated UMass-Dartmouth in 2014 (41-20) and in 2000 (62-30).
