Field Hockey Produces 2-1 Triumph At Clark

Worcester, Mass. - November 2, 2024 - With a spot in the upcoming New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament on the line, the Springfield College field hockey team produced a 2-1 victory at Clark University on Saturday.

Springfield, which won its final three conference games to close out the regular season, improved to 8-10, 4-5 in conference play.  The Pride held a commanding 27-12 advantage in shots for the game, including a 19-5 edge in the decisive first half.  The visitors also took 11 of the game's 15 penalty corners and Kaitlyn Parent (Glastonbury, Conn.) was credited with two stops in the win.

The Pride put plenty of offensive pressure on from the opening whistle, and following back-to-back penalty corners, Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) was able to connect on a Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) for the game's first goal at the 9:34 mark.

Morlock got into the scoring action for what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 19th minute when she buried off a strike in front of the cage as both Gaydos and Amber Wolkner (Farmington, Conn.) were credited with assists.

The action tightened up in the second half, with the Cougars making in a one-goal game on a Ciaran Cubbage goal off a penalty corner in the 40th minute.  However, despite facing six shots down the stretch, Springfield was able to hang on for the critical 2-1 conference win.
