Women's Soccer Caps Regular Season With 2-0 Win Over Smith

Springfield, Mass. – November 2, 2024 – The Springfield College women's soccer team secured a 2-0 shutout win over Smith College in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Brock-Affleck Field.

Springfield ends its regular season with a record of 9-4-4 (6-3-2 NEWMAC) and will be the second seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship Tournament, while Smith (7-8-2, 6-2-2 NEWMAC) will be the third seed. Full brackets and game times for the championship tournament will be made available by the league office later this weekend.

Springfield dominated possession in the match with a 21-5 advantage in shots and an 11-2 differential in corner kicks. Pride keeper Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) made a pair of saves to push her record to 8-4-3 this fall.

After a scoreless opening stanza, Ryan Prystowski (Westfield, Mass.) gave Springfield a 1-0 edge in the 52nd minute as she finished a pass from Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.). Prystowski's goal was her second of the season, while Healy notched her sixth assist of the fall and now has at least a point in seven of the last nine contests.

Then in the 84th minute, Mia Salmon (Arlington, Va.) gave the Pride an insurance marker as she potted her eighth goal of the fall off a feed from Kayla McGrath (North Adams, Mass.)

Ryan made a save for Springfield in the 87th minute to preserve the shutout and the 2-0 win this afternoon.
