Hartford, Conn. – November 23, 2024 – Graduate student
Madison Daly (Enfield, Conn.) registered the first two goals of her collegiate career to lift the Springfield College women's soccer team over Pitt-Greensburg, 4-0, in the semifinal round of the 2024 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship Tournament this afternoon on the campus of the University of Hartford.
Springfield, the second-seeded team in this year's ECAC bracket, improved to 10-5-4 and will take on top-seeded and No. 24 nationally-ranked Hartford tomorrow in the title match at 12:00 pm. Pitt-Greensburg sees its season come to a close at 13-5-4.
Springfield will be making its first appearance in the ECAC Division III Women's Soccer Championship title match since 2019. Overall in the ECAC Tournament, Springfield has a record of 12-6-2 and has a record of 0-1-2 in the championship matches as both draws ended in penalty kick in the Pride's favor to capture ECAC titles.
Today's meeting between Springfield and Pitt-Greensburg was the first in program history.
Kate Minoudis (Columbia, Conn.) got Springfield on the board just 3:42 into the match as she tallied her first goal of the season after driving through the Pitt-Greensburg defense. Minoudis buried her shot into the lower right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Then, Daly took a corner kick and ripped it off the hands of Greensburg keeper Paige John to double Springfield's advantage in the 27th minute. Just 2:35 later, Baxter headed the ball into the back of the off a corner kick by
Mirabel Brunell (Clifton Park, N.Y.) for a 3-0 lead at halftime. Baxter's goal was her fourth of the fall.
With 17:05 remaining in the match, Daly fired a shot from the top of the box, off the crossbar and into the net to account for her second goal of the day and the 4-0 win for Springfield in the ECAC Semifinals.
Springfield held an 18-5 advantage in shots (10-4 on goal) and an 8-2 differential in corner kicks, which proved to be the difference today.
Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) made four saves for Springfield over the first 75 minutes of the contest.
Springfield and Hartford will meet tomorrow at noon on Al-Marzook Field to decide the winner of the 2024 ECAC Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.
