Men's Soccer Falls to Babson in NEWMAC Semifinals

Babson Park, Mass. – November 7, 2024 – Fifth-seeded Springfield College fell to top-seeded and No. 11 nationally-ranked Babson College, 4-0, in the semifinal round of the 2024 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament on Thursday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

Babson improved to 13-1-6 overall and will advance to the NEWMAC title match on Saturday against either Salve Regina University or Coast Guard, while Springfield sees its campaign end at 6-9-4.

The host Beavers score just 5:27 into the match and took a 1-0 lead into halftime before added three goals in the second stanza in a span of 20 minutes to account for the 4-0 final. Lyndon Way tallied his first goal of the season for the Beavers off a feed from Kento Abe to open the scoring.

Babson, playing a man-up in the second half, saw James Donaldson double its advantage in the 51st minute on an unassisted strike before Abe found the back of the net 9:20 later to make the score 3-0. Babson was awarded a penalty kick in the 71st minute that was buried by Lorenzo Mancini – his first strike of the year – ending the match, 4-0.

Babson held a 20-6 advantage in shots including a 10-1 differential in shots on goal and an 8-2 margin in corner kicks. In net, Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) made six saves for Springfield.

Today marked Springfield's first appearance in the NEWMAC Championship Semifinals since 2021.
