Women's Basketball Takes Down Babson, 65-53

Babson Park, Mass. - February 10, 2024 - The Springfield College women's basketball team put together a dominating first-half performance and never looked back as it ran away with a 65-53 win at Babson in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) clash.

Springfield, which was receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com National Poll, improved to 19-4, 8-1 and earned its second win at Babson in its last 17 trips dating back to 2008.  The loss dropped Babson to 11-12, 5-4.

Rachel Vinton (Holden, Mass.) netted a game-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting while Angela Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) controlled the paint with 15 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  As a team Springfield shot 27-for-59 (53%) from the field.

Springfield jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Czeremcha found Vinton for a backdoor bucket as the hosts called for a quick timeout.  The lead grew to 19-7 on a spinning finish in the lane by Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) and Springfield would own a 19-10 cushion after 10 minutes of play as they shot 62% from the floor.

Vinton opened up the second quarter with a baseline jumper before Jaelen Daubon (Hyde Park, N.Y.) would cash in on a wing three to cap off a 7-0 burst as the lead ballooned to 30-13 at the 4:51 mark.  A three-point play from Vinton with under two to play allowed the Pride to go up 35-15, but Babson would score the final six points of the frame to make it a 35-21 contest at the break.  Vinton connected on all seven of her shots in the first half for 16 points.

Czeremcha converted down low for a tough finish to help the lead grow back to 19 at 44-25 with 6:%1 on the clock in the third before another Czeremcha bucket three minutes late pushed the visitors advantage to 51-30.  Springfield would shoot nearly 70% from the field in the quarter to led 54-39 entering the fourth.  The Pride would lead by as many as 19 in the fourth and would cruise to the conference victory.

Springfield will play its final home game of the regular season on Wednesday night when it hosts Clark at 7 pm.
