Women's Swimming and Diving Downs Trinity

Hartford, Conn. – February 3, 2024 – The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team defeated Trinity College (Conn.) in a dual meet this afternoon by a score of 155.5-135. The victory pushed Springfield's dual meet win streak to seven and the Pride are now 8-5 on the season.

The event began with the 200-yard mixed medley relay as Carolyn Blenk (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Viet-Anh Nguyen (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Dan Backlund (Duxbury, Mass.), and Kay Shen (Hong Kong) posted the Springfields' best time at 1:42.19 for third place.

Junior Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.) paced Springfield's efforts individually this afternoon as she won three events in the 50-breast (30.46), 100-breast (1:07.23) and 200-IM (2:16.80), while Shen won the 50-free (24.67) and the 100-free (54.45) in addition to her third place finish in the 200-free (2:03.46).

Junior Erin Kelaher (Tucson, Ariz.) also had a strong individual meet with a first place finish in the 50-fly (26.83) in addition to second place finishes in both the 100-free (56.12) and the 100-fly (1:02.87). Senior Emma Baumhauer (Fairport, N.Y.) and sophomore Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) both rounded out the list of winners this afternoon for the Pride as Baumhauer won the 100-back in 1:01.23 and Savoie won the 500-free in 5:27.06.

Junior Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.), Blenk and first-year Natalie Norbut (Bristol, Conn.) rounded out the highlights in the swimming portion of the meet this afternoon for the Pride. Chamberlin posted a second place finish in the 50-fly (28.14) and a third place finish in the 50-free (25.53), Blenk touched the wall second in the 200-IM (2:19.63) and third in the 100-back (1:02.05), while Norbut took second in the 500-free (5:37.77).

The 800-free relay of Baumhauer, Savoie, Chamberlin and senior Elizabeth Athanas (Manchester, Mass.) finished second in 8:14.27.

In the diving well, senior Megan Crawford (Agawam, Mass.) won the 3-meter board with a score of 239.77 and finished second on the 1-meter board with a score of 229.41.

Springfield will return to the pool tomorrow afternoon with a dual against Amherst College in Art Linkletter Natatorium beginning at 1:00 pm.
