New York, N.Y. - February 7, 2024 - The Springfield College men's volleyball team made a midweek trip to New York City and bested NYU in straight sets on Wednesday evening by the scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-15.

The Pride, which moved up to No. 4 in the AVCA/NVA Division III National Poll, moved to 8-1 with the win, while the 12th-ranked Violets fell to 4-3.

Evan Costley (Simi Valley, Calif.) racked up a standout statline in the victory as he totaled a team-best 11 kills and career-high 10 digs to go along with three blocks and two aces.  Sam Levinson (La Grange, Ill.) chipped in 10 kills, Ethan Walters (St. Louis, Mo.) added nine kills, and Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) contributed six blocks in keying a defense that limited NYU to a .072 hitting percentage.  Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) was credited with 26 helpers as he guided Springfield to its eighth-straight victory. 

Even at 8-8 in the first, Springfield put together a 4-1 burst capped off by a kill from Costley to open up a 12-9 edge.  Back-to-back kills from Levinson pushed the advantage to 18-14 as the hosts called for a timeout, and Costley would later blast his sixth kill of the set for the 25-19 triumph. 

Walters ripped a kill to finish off a 6-1 surge by the visitors in the second as the Pride extended a 10-5 lead. Springfield's lead would balloon to as many as nine points on two occasions before a NYU miscue concluded the 25-18 victory. Springfield turned in 14 kills at a .300 clip in the frame, led by five off the arm of Levinson. 

Knotted at 4-4 in the third, Springfield reeled off seven-consecutive points, with the run getting started by two aces from Giancarlo Carrion (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico).   Springfield would limit the Violets to a .000 hitting percentage and coast to the 25-15 win as Costley and Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) sealed the sweep with a block. 

On Friday night, Springfield will travel to face Endicott in a 7 pm showdown.
