Bowdoin Rallies Past Women's Lacrosse, 11-9

Panama City Beach, Fla. – March 12, 2024 – The Springfield College women's lacrosse team dropped its first contest of the 2024 season as Bowdoin rallied for an 11-9 win in the SpringFling Tournament on Tuesday morning.

The win was the first of the season for the Polar Bears who moved to 1-2, while Springfield dropped to 4-1.

Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.) totaled three goals and an assist to pace the Pride while Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.)  delivered three goals on just four shots. Haley Moody (Wells, Maine) notched six saves in goal for the Pride as she faced 25 shots on the day.

Bowdoin held a 17-5 advantage in draw controls in the contest and 10 of their 11 goals were unassisted, including five free-position goals.

The Pride jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first quarter following power play goals from Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Lalancette.  Springfield would later get goals from Andresen and Lalancette in the opening 5:05 of the second quarter to push its lead to three goals before heading into halftime with a 5-3 advantage.

Andresen stung a free-position strike just over two minutes into the second half to push the lead to 6-3, but over the next 4:44, Bowdoin would respond with a 4-1 scoring burst to tie the game up at 7-7 with 6:59 on the clock. Goals from Abby Taylor (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) and Lalancette just over two minutes apart allowed the Pride's lead to grow to 9-7.  However, the Polar Bears netted the final four goals of the game and held the Pride off the scoreboard for the last 19-plus minutes of the game to complete their comeback.

Springfield returns to Massachusetts to begin New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play when it heads to Emerson on Saturday for a 1 pm tilt.
