Women's Lacrosse Begins NEWMAC Play With 19-5 Win At Emerson

Boston, Mass. - March 16, 2024 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team netted 11 goals in the opening quarter and never looked back as it topped Emerson, 19-5, in its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener on Saturday afternoon.

The win pushed the Pride's record to 5-1 on the year as it bounced back from its first loss of the season earlier in the week.  Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) led all scorers with five goals as she pumped in a hat trick in the opening minute of the game.  Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) added three assists and a goal, while Arielle Johnson (Pomfret, Conn.), Liz Neri (Farmington, Conn.), and Lauren Landino (South Windsor, Conn.) each chipped in three points.  Springfield finished the day with a 33-12 advantage in shots and won 20 of the game's 27 draw controls, including five from Hannah Hibbert (Center Harbor, N.H.).

In the opening 15 minutes of play, Springfield netted 11 goals on 14 shots to take total command of the game.  Andresen's fifth goal of the game just over three minutes into the second pushed the lead to 12-0 and a Molly Novak (Poughquag, N.Y.) strike at the 5:01 mark of the third allowed the lead to grow to 15-1.  After the hosts pulled within 16-5 early in the fourth, Springfield scored the final three goals of the contest, with Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) scoring at the 3:38 mark to close out the 19-5 triumph.

Springfield will square off against Trinity on Wednesday at 6 pm.
