Women's Lacrosse Eases Past Clark, 19-2

Springfield, Mass. - March 29, 2024 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse powered past visiting Clark, 19-2, on Friday evening in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tilt on Stagg Field.

Springfield improved 8-2, 4-0 against conference opponents, while the Cougars dipped 5-5, 1-3.

Pacing the way for Springfield was Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) who erupted for four goals and three assists seeing action in just the first quarter.  Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) collected six draw controls and Colleen Browne (Westford, Mass.) set the tone between the pipes, marking four first-quarter saves, as she finished the night with six for the win.  A total of 10 student-athletes found the back of the cage for the Pride, which had a 30-11 advantage in shots and won 18 of the game's 27 draw controls.

Lily Johnson scored the first of her four first-quarter goals just 1:05 into the contest as the hosts raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first 12:07 of the contest.  Arielle Johnson (Pomfret, Conn.) added two goals and an assist in the burst which featured three man-down goals from the Pride.

Springfield would take a 12-1 lead into the halftime break after a strike from Lauren Ronai (Orange, Conn.) with 4:35 left in the second allowed the hosts' cushion to grow to 11 goals.  The Pride would push its lead to 14-1 entering the fourth and tally five goals in the final quarter, a spurt the was started by a sensational strike on the run by Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.), as it wrapped up the 19-2 triumph.

The Pride will next play at Coast Guard on Wednesday at 5 pm.
