Second-Half Push Leads Women's Lacrosse Past WNE, 15-6

Springfield, Mass. - March 5, 2024 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team netted the first six goals of the second half and never looked back as it produced a 15-6 win over Western New England on Tuesday evening at a rainy Stagg Field.

The Pride pushed its record to 4-0, marking the best start to a season since 2016.  WNE remained winless at 0-3.

Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) poured in a career-high five goals, while Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) delivered her fourth hat trick of the season to pace the offense.  Haley Moody (Wells, Maine) tallied six saves in goal for the Pride, which 38-20 advantage on shots in the contest.

After the teams traded goals inside the opening three minutes of the game, Springfield would string together three-straight strikes, including a pair from Andresen, to open up a 4-1 advantage with 6:41 on the clock.  WNE would tack on their second power play goal of the first quarter to trim their deficit to 4-2 entering the second.

The teams went back-and-forth in the second quarter as Springfield built a three-goal advantage on three occasions, the last coming when Andresen won the final draw control of the frame and blistered in her third of the game with three seconds left in the half.

Andresen and Abby Taylor (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) each scored twice in the first eight-plus minutes of the third quarter before Lauren Ronai (Orange, Conn) finished off a terrific look from Karen Joy (South Windsor, Conn.) at 3:50 to make it a 12-4 game.  Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) struck for a power play goal with 3:40 left in regulation to push Springfield's advantage to 15-5 as it cruised to the non-conference win.

Springfield will head off to Spring Break next week where it will compete in the SpringFling Tournament in Panama City Beach and square off with Bowdoin on Tuesday.
