Beverly, Mass. - March 9, 2024 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team was outscored by a 9-1 margin in the second half as it was defeated by Endicott, 15-7, in a non-conference tilt at Hempstead Stadium.
The loss dropped Springfield to 0-5 on the year while the Gulls lifted their record to 4-1.
Brady Soldo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) netted a hat trick, while
Kevin Tierney (Glastonbury, Conn.) totaled three assists and
Mason Nocito (Mahopac, N.Y.) added a goal and two helpers.
Kaden Quirk (Nahant, Mass.) was credited with 15 saves in goal as Springfield was outshot by a 54-30 margin in the contest.
After the Gulls netted the first two goals of the game in the first 2:31, Soldo responded with consecutive markers to even things up at the 5:55 mark. The hosts would respond with the game's next three goals, only to have Springfield put together a 4-1 push in the final 8:33 of the second quarter to go into halftime knotted up at 6-6.
Jake Degnan (Mahopac, N.Y.) cashed in on two goals in the spurt, including a strike from Tierney with 14 seconds left on the clock.
Endicott netted four goals in the first six-plus minutes of the third to take control and would outscore Springfield by a 6-1 margin in the third. The hosts tacked on another three goals in the fourth to complete their nine-goal second-half as they pulled away from the non-conference win.
The Pride will begin New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on March 16 when it travels to face Babson for a 1 pm meeting.
