Springfield, Mass. – April 10, 2024 – The Springfield College men's tennis team was upended by Nichols College, 7-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at home.
Springfield dropped to 4-7 on the year, while Nichols improved to 8-7.
Nichols won two of three doubles matches for the 2-1 lead heading into singles.
Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) and
Marc Villanueva Abad (Morelia, Mexico) were the lone victors for the Pride in doubles action as they topped Karem Subasi and Leon Zeis, 8-6.
Ethan Gomulka (San Berardino, Calif.) was the only winner for Springfield in singles play as he edged Caio Deickmann, 7-5, 7-5 at No. 5. Nichols won four of its five singles points in straight sets, but Villanueva Abad played a hard fought three setter against Richard Hartmann at No. 2. It was Hartmann, however, who was victorious for the Bison, 3-6, 6-2, 10-5.
Springfield will travel to Clark University for a NEWMAC matchup on Saturday, April 13 at 2:00 pm.
