Box Score Springfield, Mass. – April 14, 2024 – The Springfield College men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) decision against Clark University this afternoon.
Springfield is now 4-8 overall and 3-1 in NEWMAC play, while Clark is 9-5, 2-3.
Clark held a 2-1 lead after doubles play as the Cougars won 8-5 at No. 1 and 8-6 at No. 2.
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) picked up an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Cougars won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles and No. 4 singles. Thongbooncharoen defeated Tanner Honnef, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 at No. 3 and
Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) defeated Adham Seraj, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6.
Gomulka and Ryan Hovey played a tough match at No. 5 singles that stretched the distance, but it was Hovey who won, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 to secure the 6-3 win for Clark.
Springfield will return to action tomorrow with a home NEWMAC contest against No. 29 MIT at 3:30 pm.
