Cambridge, Mass. – April 24, 2026 – The Springfield College men's tennis team ended its 2025-26 season with a 4-0 setback to second-seeded and No. 38 nationally-ranked MIT in the semifinal round of the 2026 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Springfield sees its season end with a record of 10-8, while MIT advances to the NEWMAC title match on Sunday against top-seeded Babson College.
MIT took the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 and a 6-0 win at No. 2.
Tim Norin (Strockholm, Sweden)and
Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) fought hard at the No. 1 slot tying the score at 3-3, but Hunter Liao and Tyler Li won the final three games to take the contest, 6-3.
At the time the match was called due to MIT securing its fourth point, the Engineers had leads in all six singles matchups. Liao finished his match over
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1, Grant Gallagher defeated
Marc Villanueva Abad (Barcelona, Mexico), 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and Jeremy Yu topped Gomulka, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. The final three singles matches remained unfinished.
