Springfield, Mass. – April 10, 2024 – The Springfield College women's tennis team fell to Nichols College by a 6-3 final on Wednesday afternoon on the Appleton Tennis Courts.
Springfield dropped to 2-9 on the year, while Nichols improved to 11-6.
The Pride raced out to a 3-0 advantage with dominant play in doubles action.
Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) and
Alysa Elliot (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) defeated Antonio Carrerro and Johanna Schroeder, 8-1, at No. 1,
Ramida Manataweewat (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.) topped Charis Vogler and Cora Brosch, 8-2, at No. 2 and
Natalia Peyon (Hong Kong) and
Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) defeated Kiley O'Brien and Erin Helly, 8-6, at No. 3.
Nichols, however, went on to win all six points in singles play for the 6-3 final. Vettayawaikoon played a tough match against Carrerro at No. 1, but fell in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 5-10.
Emma Aberle (West Warren, Mass.) also played a three set thriller against Bethany Prendergast at No. 6, but ultimately fell, 6-3, 0-6, 8-10.
The Bison won in straight sets at No. 2, No. 3 and no. 4 singles as well as by retirement at No. 5.
Springfield will travel to Clark University for a NEWMAC matchup on Saturday, April 13 at 10:30 am.
