Springfield, Mass. – April 15, 2024 – The Springfield College men's tennis team fell to No. 29 nationally-ranked MIT in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest this afternoon on the Appleton Tennis Courts.
MIT improved to 13-3 overall and 5-0 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield dropped to 4-9, 3-2.
The visiting Engineers took a 3-0 lead after doubles play, but Springfield's No. 3 team of
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) played the closest matchup with the 8-6 final.
MIT won five of six singles points – all of which came in straight set. The lone winner for Springfield on the afternoon was
Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) at No. 6 as he topped Cole Armstrong, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) played a close match with Siddharth Marathe at No. 1 singles, but ultimately fell, 6-3, 6-4.
Springfield will host Coast Guard on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
