Springfield, Mass. – April 16, 2024 – The Springfield College women's tennis team fell to No. 19 nationally-ranked MIT, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action this afternoon on the Appleton Tennis Courts.
MIT improved to 10-3 overall and to 5-0 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield fell to 3-10, 3-3 NEWMAC.
In doubles play, Springfield's best outing came at the No. 1 spot as
Ramida Manataweewat (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) were defeated by an 8-2 final.
Before the match,
Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.) was honored on senior day and hung tough at No. 6 singles, but fell to Sophia Min, 6-0, 6-2. Vettayawaikoon and Manataweewat dropped their matches by 6-1, 6-1 finals at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
Springfield will return to action on Saturday with a road trip to No. 20 ranked Babson College at 2:00 pm.
