Babson Park, Mass. – April 20, 2024 – The Springfield College men's tennis team fell to No. 33 Babson College, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon on the road.
Babson wrapped up the regular season 12-8 overall and 6-1 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield capped the regular season at 4-11 overall and 3-4 in the league. Babson will enter the NEWMAC tournament as the No. 2 seed, while Springfield will enter the conference playoffs as the No. 5 seed.
Babson held a 3-0 lead after doubles play with the closest matches for the Pride coming at both No. 1 and No. 2.
Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) and
Marc Villanueva Abad (Morelia, Mexico) at No. 1 and
Waseem Sablon (Stoughton, Mass.) and
Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) at No. 2 both fell by 8-3 finals.
The Beavers won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) played the closest match at No. 3, but fell 6-1, 6-4 to Logan Back.
Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.), meanwhile, was defeated 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 by Brandon Reznik.
The Pride will await final seedings for the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament to find out who and where they will play next week.
