Springfield, Mass. - April 27, 2024 - The Springfield College women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 win over Emerson on Saturday at Appleton Courts in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
The Pride picked up a pair of wins in doubles as Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) and Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) prevailed by an 8-7 (3) win at the top spot, while the No. 3 squad of Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) and Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) eased to an 8-3 triumph.
Springfield carried that momentum into singles play as they won all six matches en route to claiming the victory in their regular-season finale. Manataweewat was first off the court at No. 2 after a 6-1, 6-0 victory before Elliot followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4. Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.) clinched the match with her 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6, while McGoldrick won at No. 5 by a 6-4, 6-3 score. Vettayawaikoon battled her way to a 7-6 (6), 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot and Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) wrapped up the afternoon with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3.
