Springfield, Mass. – June 12, 2024 – Springfield College Athletics finished 78th nationally in the final overall standings of the 2023-2024 Division III Learfield Directors' Cup. This marks the 15th consecutive year that the Pride finished ranked inside the top-100 schools across the nearly 450 Division III athletic programs from across the country.
The Learfield Directors' Cup scoring is created by counting a maximum 18 sports, while men's and women's basketball and men's and women's soccer are the four scores that must be counted for each institution. Additionally, up to 14 other scores may be counted, regardless of gender, in the final score. Springfield's 244.50 points allowed the Pride ranked to the ranked third among institutions from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), behind MIT (7th) and Babson (49th). In total, 11 programs represented Springfield on the national stage this year.
Johns Hopkins once claimed the Learfield Directors Cup and earned the title of the top-ranked Division III athletic program, while Williams finished second. Emory, Tufts, NYU, Middlebury, MIT, Washington-St. Louis, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and Wisconsin-Whitewater rounded out the top-10.
In the fall, Springfield's women's volleyball team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, while the football team captured its third-straight NEWMAC Championship en route to hosting a first round game in the NCAA's.
This winter, the women's basketball program earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Championships and the men's gymnastics team competed in the NCAA National Collegiate Championships, while student-athletes from the wrestling, women's swimming, women's gymnastics, and men's track and field program competed on the national stage.
Wrapping up the academic year, the golf team made their second-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships, the women's lacrosse program hosted an opening round regional in the national tournament, and the men's volleyball team once again competed in the NCAA's.
