Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – September 1, 2024 – The Springfield College men's soccer team fell to Vassar College by a 4-2 final on Sunday afternoon at Gordon Field.
Vassar remained undefeated at 2-0-0, while Springfield moved to 0-1-1 on the early season.
Springfield's goal scorers today included
Aidan Hallinan (New Windsor, N.Y.) and
Brandon Trent (Commack, N.Y.), who both tallied their first markers of their collegiate careers. Meanwhile,
Connor Policarpio (Bristol, Conn.) earned his initial assist of the campaign and fourth of his career on Hallinan's goal.
Vassar held possession for the majority of the contest as the Brewers outshot the Pride by a 14-5 margin and posted 12-0 differential in corner kicks – nine of which came in the second half for Vassar.
The Brewers scored three times in the first 28 minutes of the game, which was all the offense they would need in today's game. Jared Fiske potted the initial goal for the hosts in the sixth minute and added another in the 29th minute. Sandwiched in between was a marker by Jack Staples before Springfield broke up the shutout.
Hallinan registered an unassisted strike in the 33rd minute for his first collegiate goal and then with less than three minutes to play in the first half Trent finished a pass from Policarpio to make it just a one goal game heading into the break.
Neither team was able to score until late in the match when Vassar's Arden Tobolski added an insurance goal with 2:17 left in the contest for his already fourth goal of the 2024 season. Thus far this season, Vassar has scored nine goals in two matches, while Springfield has mustered just three goals in 180 minutes of play in 2024.
Springfield keeper
Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) made three stops for the Pride in the complete game effort.
The Pride will welcome Gordon College to Alden Street on Saturday, September 7 at 1:00 pm for its next matchup.
