Springfield, Mass. – September 10, 2024 – The Springfield College field hockey team netted a goal in the opening two minutes and never looked back as it blanked Eastern Connecticut, 5-0, in its home opener at Stagg Field on Tuesday night.
The victory evened the Pride's record at 2-2 on the year, while the Warriors dipped to 1-2.
Anna Beck (Attleboro, Mass.) delivered three goals in her first home game with Springfield, while
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) handed out two helpers.
Neilee Hess (Franklin, Mass.) was credited with the win and made four saves for the Pride, which enjoyed a 14-6 advantage in shots and took seven of the game's nine penalty corners.
Springfield wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as the Pride struck just 91 seconds into the contest after
Emma McLaughlin (Norwalk, Conn.) delivered a beautiful inside feed to Beck who slotted in her first goal as a member of the Pride. Beck tacked on her second of the evening with just one second remaining in the quarter when the hosts were able to convert on a penalty corner opportunity.
The hosts added a third goal at the 39:07 mark when
Molly Collins (Franklin, Mass.) lifted a shot over the head of ECSU's netminder following a great feed from Morlock's corner. Beck completed her hat trick in the 47th minute when she unleashed a shot from just inside the arc off another Morlock corner before
Audrey Hayes (Oxford, Mass.) jammed in a shot along the crease off a pass from
Sarah Healy (Niantic, Conn.) with six minutes left in regulation.
The Pride will continue its four-game homestand on Thursday when it hosts Worcester State at 6 pm.
