Amherst, Mass. - September 24, 2024 - The Springfield College women's soccer team used a strike from
Rosie Turbett (Wallingford, Conn.) in the 89th minute to earn a 1-1 draw with the nation's second-ranked squad in Amherst on Tuesday night.
With the tie, Springfield is now 3-1-3 and earned a result against a nationally-ranked opponent for the second time this season after previously besting No. 21 Williams, 1-0. The Mammoths, which were ranked No. 2 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Poll, now stand at 4-0-2. Turbett's goal proved to be the first goal surrendered by Amherst so far this season.Â
The hosts had a 26-3 advantage on shots and took all six of the game's corner kicks and Springfield'sÂ
Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) was credited with 13 saves.
Amherst struck for the game's first goal just over three minutes into the match after they were awarded a free kick at the top of the box. Precious Novidzro delivered a low bending shot towards the bottom right corner which Ryan was able to punch away, only to have Patience Lum pounce on the rebound to slam home a strike.Â
Springfield's only shot of the second half came on Turbett's equalizer as she was able to corral a ball inside the box following a throw in and tucked in the fourth goal of her rookie campaign to allow Springfield to earn the draw with the second-ranked Mammoths.Â
On Saturday, Springfield returns to conference play when it travels to face Clark in a 1 pm contest.Â
