Springfield, Mass. - September 28, 2024 - A late goal by graduate student
Jen Walker (Webster, Mass.) lifted the Springfield College women's soccer team over Clark University, 1-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action this afternoon in Worcester.
Springfield improved to 4-1-3 overall and to 1-0-1 in NEWMAC play, while Clark dropped to 3-6-0, 0-2-0.
In a game that only saw both teams combine for 14 total shots (six on goal), it was bound to be a close decision and was until the 86th minute. Walker played the ball at the top of the box off and ripped a shot off the crossbar and in for the game winning goal. The play was set up by a corner kick that was taken by
Natalia Mottura (Scarsdale, N.Y.).
The game winning goal was Walker's second of the season and sixth of her collegiate career.
In net, Springfield keeper
Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) made a pair of saves to improve to 3-1-2 on the season with her second clean sheet of the campaign.
Springfield will host Wheaton College (Mass.) in a NEWMAC battle on Brock-Affleck Field next Saturday, October 5 at 4:00 pm.
