Babson Defeats Men's Basketball, 70-53

Babson Park, Mass. – January 14, 2025 – Nate Amado scored a season-high 31 points as Babson College topped the Springfield College men's basketball team, 70-53, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest in Staake Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

Babson improved to 9-5 overall and to 3-2 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield dropped to 5-8, 2-2.

Amado recorded his 31 points on 12-for-16 shooting from the floor in addition to ten rebounds, three blocks and two assists. The Beavers saw nine different student-athletes score in the win. Springfield was paced by Xoren Livingston (Wayland, Mass.), who notched 13 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the floor. Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.) added 11 points and three rebounds, while Curtiss Blische (Barkhamsted, Conn.) came up just short of a double-double with 10 points and eight boards.

It was a slow start for both teams that score the score knotted at six after nearly five minutes of play, but Babson went on a 16-3 run that featured ten straight points and was capped on a trey by Amado for a 22-9 lead midway through the first. Springfield answered with a 13-4 run of its own that began with a three point bucket by Flynn and finished by two free throws by Blische to cut its deficit to just four at 26-22 with 4:34 left before the break.

Amado, however, scored seven of the final nine points of the half for either team highlighted by a buzzer beater three as the host Beavers took a 33-24 edge into halftime.

Both teams traded buckets to open the second but a shot from behind the arc from Alex Stoddard gave Babson its first double-digit point lead of the contest as the Beavers never looked back. The hosts built their lead to as many as 23 points at 60-37 with 7:05 remaining in regulation following an emphatic dunk by Amado. A brief 10-2 run by Springfield that featured five points from Livingston answered Amado's dunk, but it wasn't enough as Babson defeated Springfield by a 70-53 final.

Springfield shot just 32.7-percent from the floor, while Babson shot 43.1-percent from the floor and knocked down eight shots from behind the arc. The Beavers also held a 36-35 edge in rebounds, a 12-6 differential in assists and turned 14 Springfield turnovers into 20 points.

Springfield will return to NEWMAC play on Thursday with a trip to the Coast Guard Academy at 7:00 pm.
