No. 7 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Hunter to Open Division III Slate in 2025

New York, N.Y. – January 24, 2025 – The Springfield College men's volleyball team opened its Division III slate of games with a three-set sweep of Hunter College on Friday evening on the road. The Pride won by set scores of 25-14, 25-16, 25-13.

Springfield, which was ranked No. 7 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III national poll and No. 6 by FrogJump Volleyball is now 1-1 on the season, while Hunter dropped to 0-2.

Springfield's balanced attack was paced by eight kills from Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) in the middle as he hit .583 (8-1-12), while Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and Jake DesLauriers (Eastport, N.Y.) both recorded seven kills in the sweep. Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) recorded three kills of his own in addition to 32 assists, two aces, three digs and four blocks. DesLauriers also led Springfield with five digs and three aces in the win.

For the match, Springfield hit .471 (38-6-68), recorded ten aces, 15 blocks and 27 digs as a team and held Hunter to just a .058 hitting percentage (19-15-69).
 
Springfield hit a blistering .542 in the first set without an error (13-0-24) thanks to three kills apiece from Levinson, DesLauriers and Rouleau. Springfield ripped off an early 6-0 run that was capped on an ace by Mulvaney for a 10-5 advantage before Hunter called the match's first timeout. The Hawks got a point back out of the break, but Springfield scored ten of the next 15 points on a pair of swings by Levinson before the spurt was capped on a block from Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.), Mulvaney and Durivage ballooning the lead to 20-10. Hunter got four points back, but kills from DesLauriers and Rouleau paired with an error by Hunter gave Springfield the first, 25-14.

After a back and forth start to the second that saw Springfield hold just a one point lead at 11-10, the Pride embarked on a 9-3 run that saw solo kills by five different student-athletes including one by Cole Kallick (Redondo Beach, Calif.) that capped it to give Springfield a 20-13 lead. Hunter got no closer than six before a swing by AJ Seveland (Jenkintown, Pa.) and four errors by the Hawks secured the second for Springfield, 25-16. As a team, Springfield hit .400 (12-4-20) with a match-high four aces in the second stanza.

Springfield led by just four at 15-11 midway through the third before the Pride scored eight straight points pushing the lead to 23-11. A swing by Mulvaney and an error by Hunter gave Springfield the third, 25-13, and the three set sweep. Springfield hit .458 (13-2-24) in the third.

Springfield will remain in New York for a match at St. Joseph's (Long Island) tomorrow at 3:30 pm.
