Women's Swimming and Diving Gets By Smith and Wellesley

Northampton, Mass. – January 25, 2025 – The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team narrowly defeated New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rivals Smith and Wellesley in a double dual on Saturday afternoon on the road.

Springfield edged Smith, 159-39, and clipped Wellesley by just one point, 148.5-147.5 to push its record to 6-5 in dual meets this season.

Kay Shen (Hong Kong) and Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.) paced Springfield's efforts in the pool both winning two individual events. Shen placed first in both the 200-free in 1:59.03 and the 100-free in 54.29 before swimming to a fourth place finish in the 100-fly in 1:30.30, while Lamb placed first in the 100-breast in 1:07.88 and the 200-breast in 2:29.92 in addition to a runner-up finish in the 200-IM in 2:16.46.

Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.) was the only other individual winner on the day as she claimed first in the 50-free in 25.80 just ahead of Erin Kelaher (Tucson, Ariz.) in 25.88. Chamberlin also took third in the 200-free in 2:05.24.

Chamberlin teamed up with Natalie Norbut (Bristol, Conn.), Kelaher and Shen for first in the 400-free relay in 3:44.41 to close the meet, while Maddie Symecko (Plantsville, Conn.), Lamb, Kelaher and Norbut opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:52.54.

Symecko went on to finish third in the 200-back in 2:17.69 and fourth in the 100-back in 1:03.46.
 
In the distance events, Paige Levine (Holtsville, N.Y.) took second in the 500-free in 5:38.66, while Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) registered a third place finish in the 1000-free in 11:35.04.

Elizabeth Santos (Chicopee, Mass.) paced Springfield in the diving well with a pair of second place finishes as she registered a score of 249.75 on the 3-meter board and a score of 228.90 on the 1-meter board.

Springfield will return home to face Trinity (Conn.) on Saturday, February 1 for a Senior Day meet at 1:00 pm.
