Norton, Mass. - October 15, 2025 - The Springfield College women's soccer team was defeated by New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Wheaton (Mass.) this afternoon, 5-2. 

With the win, the Lyons improve to 7-5 overall while the Pride drop to 4-8 overall with both teams sitting at 3-3 in conference play. First-year Jessica Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) scored the first goal of her career. 

Wheaton (Mass.) scored three unanswered goals within the first fifteen minutes of the game. Ali Roche of the Lyons scored the first two goals of the game as Wheaton's top scorer continues to dominate on offense.

In the 43rd minute, the Lyons tacked on another goal when Kate Wickenheisser headed the ball in off of a free kick and in the 60th minute, they scored their final goal before Springfield was able to knock in a few of its own. 

With less than ten minutes remaining, Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.) drove into the box and shot one into the top left corner to put the Pride on the board.

Springfield continued to battle as they scored again in the 87th minute when Kaitlyn Suller (Oviedo, Fla.) crossed the ball to Perry who scored to put them within three, but it was too late to come back after an explosive first half from Wheaton (Mass.).

The Pride outshot the Lyons 27-15 and held a 4-2 edge on corner kicks. Mairead Marsden (Amsterdam, N.Y.) got her first start of the year and totaled three saves in the loss. 

Springfield hosts WPI for Senior Day on Saturday, October 18 at 1:00 pm.
