Springfield, Mass. - October 18 - The Springfield College women's soccer team beat conference opponent WPI behind the performance of its seniors, 4-2. Senior
Kaitlyn Suller (Oviedo, Fla.) scored two goals for the Pride while seniors
Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.) and
Natalia Mottura (Scarsdale, N.Y.) had one goal each.
Springfield improves to 5-8-0 overall and 4-3 in the conference while WPI drops to 9-4-2 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play.
Prior to the start of the match, Springfield honored its five seniors in Suller, Healy, Mottura,
Mirabel Brunell (Clifton Park, N.Y.), and
Kayla McGrath (North Adams, Mass.).
The Pride's first goal came in the 4th minute of the game when
Katie McFerran's (Selkirk, N.Y.) initial shot was saved and Suller was able to score off of the rebound.
Six minutes later, Suller drove down into the box and crossed the ball to Healy who buried one in the top left corner to put Springfield up two.
In the 21st minute, McFerran found Mottura near the opposite post who was able to score her first goal of the season.
Springfield added another goal when
Lauren Darrell (Wethersfield, Conn.) sent a ball to Suller who ran onto the it and lifted the ball over the goalkeeper.
WPI added two goals to cut Springfield's lead, but an explosive first half from the Pride was too much to come back from.

Mairead Marsden (Amsterdam, N.Y.) had eight saves in the win.
Springfield will travel to Wellesley on Wednesday for a 3:00 pm matchup.
