Women's Volleyball Falls to Williams in Five Set Thriller to Open New England Challenge

Springfield, Mass. – October 24, 2025 – For the third consecutive season, the Springfield College women's volleyball team and Williams College played a five-set contest at the New England Challenge. This year, the Ephs came away with the win by scores of 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 15-25, 15-13 in Blake Arena, after Springfield won the previous two meetings.

Williams improved to 16-4, while Springfield dropped to 19-4. The Ephs will play MIT and Babson tomorrow beginning at 11:00 am, while the Pride will host Tufts and Middlebury. Entering this weekend's tournament. MIT ranked 16th in the AVCA Division III National Poll, while Williams and Tufts were both receiving votes.

All six teams also appeared in the first NCAA Power Index rankings, the method used to determine NCAA at-large selections with MIT 17th, Tufts, 21st, Williams 26th, Springfield 27th, Babson 28th and Middlebury 70th.

Emily Keaveney (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) led Springfield's offense with 15 kills and completed the double-double with ten digs in addition to four aces. Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) registered 12 kills and three blocks, while Aubrey Hughes (Liberty Hill, Texas) hit .412 with ten kills, two aces and four blocks. Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) dished out 42 assists and stuffed the stat sheet with four kills, one ace, two blocks and five digs, while Olivia Nealy (Athens, Ga.) posted 14 digs.

Colosimo pushed Springfield ahead 9-7 early in the first before a kill from Annaliese Fricke ignited a 12-3 run for Williams for a 19-12 advantage. The Pride were able to cut the deficit to just three at 21-18 following kills from Keaveney, Colosimo and Alexa Bonato (Orange, Conn.), but four straight points for the Ephs highlighted by kills from Fricke, Campuzano and Chi Obi gave the visitors the first 25-18.

Williams jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second before Springfield was able to pull within one at 9-8 after a swing by James. Another kill from Saeula sparked a run of five straight points to go ahead 13-10. After trading points, Williams was able to tie the score at 22, but an error, an ace by Karenna Allain (Woodbridge, Conn.)and a kill from Keaveney secured the second for the Pride, 25-23, tying the match at one. Springfield hit a match-best .423 in the second (13-2-26).

Williams once again raced out to a big lead in the third – this time 6-0. Springfield trailed 10-4, but a swing by Hughes and a pair of aces by Keaveney made it 10-9. The Pride eventually knotted the score at 13 and then once again pulled within one at 19-18 following a block in the middle by Hughes and Aurissa Boardman (Brooklyn, Conn.). Campuzano made it 20-18 which began and run of five straight points for the Ephs giving the visitors set point. Springfield was able to fend off a pair of set points, but a service error secured the set for Williams, 25-20.

Springfield rolled to a 25-15 win in the fourth after leading 7-2 early on. James registered back-to-back aces and Keaveney ended the run with a swing. The Pride led by six at 21-15 before a Keaveney kill ignited a 4-0 set-ending run that also saw a kill by Saelua and an ace by Hughes sending the match to the fifth.

The fifth was even at six before two kills from Hughes and another ace by Keaveney made it 10-6. Williams answered and took advantage of an error by the Pride embarking on what was a 9-3 match-ending run. Over the stretch Obi had three kills including the one to end the match this evening. Springfield was only able to produce four kills in the fourth with Williams scoring eight of its 15 points on kills of its own.
