Women's Volleyball Splits With Middlebury and Tufts to Complete New England Challenge

Springfield, Mass. – October 25, 2025 – The Springfield college women's volleyball team closed action at the New England Challenge by splitting sweeps against Tufts University and Middlebury College. For her efforts, Aubrey Hughes (Liberty Hill, Texas) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Springfield moved to 20-5 overall on the season marking the tenth season under head coach Moira Long that the Pride have recorded a 20-win season. Tufts finished the weekend at 18-5 and Middlebury finished the weekend at 11-11. The Jumbos defeated the Pride 25-14, 25-18, 25-20 before Springfield topped the Panthers25-22, 25-13, 25-21.

All six teams in this weekend's tournament appeared in the first NCAA Power Index rankings, the method used to determine NCAA at-large selections with MIT 17th, Tufts, 21st, Williams 26th, Springfield 27th, Babson 28th and Middlebury 70th.

Springfield will return to NEWMAC action on Tuesday when the Pride host Clark University at 7:00 pm in Blake Arena.

Tufts 3, Springfield 0

Hughes led Springfield in the match against Tufts posting seven kills and hitting .353, while Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) registered five kills of her own. Defensively, Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) guided the Pride with ten digs in addition to 16 assists.

Tufts raced out to an 8-2 lead in the first en route to an easy 25-14 victory in the first set. Springfied was able to pull within three at 8-5 following kills from Emily Keaveney (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and Saelua, but another lengthy run for the Jumbos that was sparked by a swing by Keller Mobley made it 19-11 before one final kill from Julia Griffiths finished off the first, 25-14.

Tufts once again jumped out to a big lead in the second – this time 7-1. Springfield answered with an 8-1 run of its own as back-to-back kills Alexa Bonato (Orange, Conn.) ignited the run which saw the Pride take a 9-8 edge. After the teams traded points the score stood even at 16. Tufts went on to rip off seven straight points to go ahead 23-16 before Maiwenn Kamdje and Emma Heckman finished off the second for Tufts, 25-18.

The final set was back and forth until the score stood at 16-15 in favor of the Jumbos. Four straight points from the visitors made it 20-15 before kills by Bridget Lonergan and Mobley as well as an ace from Rianna Liu finished off the sweep, 25-20.

Springfield 3, Middlebury 0

Keaveney registered a team-best 10 kills, 11 digs and five aces as Springfield swept Middlebury this afternoon. Ahunna James (Plainville, Mass.) and Hughes added eight kills apiece and combined for eight digs, eight blocks and two aces. Aurissa Boardman (Brooklyn, Conn.) also hit .625 with six kills in the final match of the weekend. Colosimo registered 29 assists, two kills, nine digs and a block as well.

Springfield trailed 16-10 midway through the first set before an error and a swing by Boardman ignited a run of five straight points pulling the Pride within one. After Middlebury got two back, Boardman pushed Springfield ahead for good with another run of five consecutive points. Down the stretch, Keaveney registered a pair of kills before an error by the Panthers gave the Pride the first, 25-22.

Springfield scored the first five points of the second – three of which came from service aces by Keaveney. The Pride eventually led 10-4 after another ace by Vanessa Gude (Eldersburg, Md.). Up 11-7, an error by Middlebury sparked a run of ten straight points for Springfield as the Pride surged ahead 21-7. The run of ten points was highlighted by two kills from James, two kills from Hughes. Ultimately it was a kill from Boardman and a Middlebury service error that secured the second, 25-13.

The third set was back and forth with no team gaining more than a five point edge until kills from Keaveney and Colosimo as well as an ace from Karenna Allain (Woodbridge, Conn.) made it 20-13. Middlebury pulled within two at 20-18, but Keaveney, Hughes and James combined down the stretch to complete the sweep, 25-21.
